M3 Case Scenario

M3 is a community credit union that provides full banking services. The bank is celebrating 20 years of service in the community with more than 40,000 employees. The credit union has several branches throughout Portland, Ore.

The credit union is on track to meet the demands of its shareholders without compromise to customer service, ethics, privacy, and regulatory compliance. There is an opportunity to update its IT infrastructure to meet the changing customer demands.

There is a high turnover in the IT department, which is concerning to the president and board of directors. As such, a chief technology officer (CTO) is hired and charged with detailing the current state of their IT infrastructure. After six months, the CTO provides the following infrastructure report, which is responsible for supporting the offices of president, finance, human resources, operations, legal, enterprise IT security, and the members.

Infrastructure is a mixed environment comprised of:

· Legacy systems and software

· Mainframe

· Client-server

· Windows Server 2012

· Hyper-V technology

· Wireless LAN

· Desktops and laptops running (Microsoft® Office® 2010)

· Virtual Private Network

· DNS Server

· DHCP

· Firewalls

· Routers and switches

Problems:

· Infrastructure requires specialized skills and the resources are stressed.

· The business data resides in multiple places; thus, it is unreliable to the business leaders for making day-to-day business decisions.

· The mobile application is outdated.

Assignment Directions:

1. Choose three ways to brainstorm from the list above.

2. Brainstorm about the topic of your Persuasive Essay using each of your chosen three methods. Each brainstorming session should last at least 10 minutes in length.

3. Document the information from your brainstorming sessions in the space provided below. The information for each brainstorm should be substantive in nature, providing further insight into your current knowledge on your topic.

4. If you choose to brainstorm by mapping/webbing, document your brainstorm, please use the Smart Art feature within Word to create the map.
